Roughly north of Peterborough beyond Orroroo and Carrieton is Gregory’s Farm, near Belton. It sits proud with its deserted homestead resting on memories of a bygone era, a time when the wheat industry suffered incredible losses during severe droughts. To this day Gregory’s Farm perpetuates the name of the original owner, a pioneer farmer who built the cottage at the time of his first marriage.

Working the land must have promised Gregory and his bride an exciting and prosperous future. However, following the drought of 1864/65, Gregory took on a new career as an undertaker in Adelaide, long gone their dream of prosperity on the farm.

Today there are new dreams, interspersed with abandoned rusting farm machinery from yesteryear.
